When I think ofย a weekend dinner we used to have as a family at my grandmother’s house, this is it. My mother used to take me and my younger brother there each weekend our whole childhood. I remember playing chess with my grandfather, him teasing me I should start my dinner with Rakija – it’s a type of strong homemade fruit brandy we have here in Croatia and other Balkan countries, my grandmother cooking the dinner and baking cakes. I was very close with my grandparents, so comfort foods like roasted beef or pork and potatoes always remind me of them. Hope everyone enjoys the recipe! ๐

This looks so tasty – my stomach starts growling! But I’m a bit surprised you had Rakija – my friends from Balkan always had slivovitz… ๐

ล ljivovica is also rakija made from plumbs, so that’s one of the options you can have before dinner here ๐ Thanks for the lovely comment!

It’s nice to know that comfort is comfort no matter where you are! This looks like the kind of dinner that we’d be serving in farmhouses all over the midwest!

Great post, Kreso. Food memories from our childhood can still be so vivid. Roast beef and potatoes – it does get much better than that!

Nothing better than roast, potatoes and a veggie. I donโt like peppers so I put carrots in mine. Yours looks delicious!!!
